Who are you?
I am Marloes, 20 years old and now in my third year of the bachelor. In addition, I have been an active member of Flow for three years. Including one year as the commissioner of the Introduction Committee.

Where did you do an internship and how long?
I did my internship at Indicia in Tilburg. Indicia focuses on ‘exploring your digital potential’. They offer online applications, such as apps, sites and portals. They have a design team, a social media team and a marketing team. I mostly had to work with these three departments. During my internship at Indicia I collaborated with the marketing manager to launch a new consultancy company called Mindshapers. I created a website, set up social media channels and had to manage all this. For five months, I worked four days a week.

How did you end up there?
I sent an open application letter containing my CV and a motivation letter. I was asked to come to an interview and then I was chosen. The company found it interesting that I was a university student who wanted to do an internship and they said that theoretical knowledge was very much appreciated. I wanted to gain practical experience and this was also appreciated.

When I started studying, I knew I wanted to do an internship to be immersed in a business. During my study CIS, I learned about many theories and models and unfortunately very little about practicalities. I wanted to see and experience what I could do with all this knowledge.

What did you do and learn at your internship?
In the first month, I was immersed in the world of WordPress. I learned to build websites that meet all the customer requirements. I also learned to use programs such as Google Analytics, AdWords, Tag Manager and many others. The focus has been on improving SEO. It was nice to see the websites I created grow. In addition, my supervisor/the marketing manager was starting a consultancy company and he wanted me as the new marketing manager. So that would be my project for these five months. I prepared and planned meetings, set up the website, arranged all social media channels and spread these all over the internet.

What I also liked very much about an internship, is looking into a thriving business. Companies are organized in their own way and have their own way of working. When you have your diploma, you do not yet know where you will end up and what function you will have, especially with CIS. My goal was to find out what kind of job I want to do when I graduate and I am certainly surer about that now!

Did you get study delay and/or a compensation?
I have half a year study delay. I decided to wait with writing my thesis and with taking the last courses for half a year. In this way, I had space to do an internship. Definitely worth it! I received a monthly fee.
