  • How many tries did it take you to pass the course?: one
  • General information: In this course, you work together with a group to develop your own research, either in the domain of artificial intelligence or cognitive science. This course is divided into subparts, some individual, some done with your group, and they basically guide you through all the steps of writing and conducting a thesis.
  • Study load: The course required quite some consistent work during the semester itself, with mandatory presentations and assignments divided throughout. If you chose to perform a human participant experiment, there was quite some workload added in scheduling participants. However, this was all compensated for by the fact that there is no exam for this course.
  • Positive feedback?: I think the assignments for this course are done quite well. Having students write their individual assignments first and grading them based on these allows you to have to think for yourself, and also decreases the dependency on group members. This course felt a little like a "practice thesis", which I think really gave me more confidence before writing my actual thesis on my own.
  • Negative feedback?: While there wasn't a heavy lean on group work to pass the course, which supervisor you chose and which group members you worked with could still very much influence your workload and grade for this course. Some supervisors were more strict than others, and some required more mandatory check-in presentations, which increased the workload. I think a uniform structure that every supervisor has to adhere to could very much benefit the course.
