Chair Daily Board Interview: Looking back

1. How would you describe your board year in three words and why?

Educational, social, and varied.

Last year, almost no two days felt the same. I gained a lot of new experiences. Both very educational professional things and a record number of nights out on the town. I learned skills I didn't have before and got to know so many new and fun people. That's why I think these three words sum up a board year well.

2. What was a highlight of the past year?

That's a really difficult question, because after so many fun activities, it's hard to choose. Of course, the Study Trip to Bucharest really stands out. But something I enjoyed every day was the atmosphere in the Flow Room and in Esplanade. There is always something going on there. The moments with my board were also great, so our board weekend was perhaps also a highlight. It's really too difficult to choose just one.

3. What was the biggest challenge?

I think the biggest challenge was learning to communicate my opinion clearly. I am quite an easy-going person (“go with the flow”). But as Chair, it is of course important that you can provide guidance and make decisions. Although it is still difficult at times, I have definitely improved.

4. What advice would you give to the next Daily Board?

Of course, the most important thing is that they enjoy their year. For me, being on the Daily Board was a wonderful experience, and I hope it will be the same for them. Even if things don't go as planned or something goes completely wrong, don't forget to put it all into perspective and stay positive. We are a study association, so fortunately, not everything has to be perfect. We do it all so that our members have a good time, and to achieve that, the board has to have a good time too.

5. What are your plans for next year?

Next year, I will be going back to college and (hopefully) completing my bachelor's degree in Communication and Information Sciences. Of course, I'm not done with Flow yet, so in addition to being a member of the Council of Advice and the Financial Audit Committee, I will also be part of the Study Trip Committee. It will take some getting used to not being at Esplanade every day, but I think the incoming board can expect me at least once a week for some free coffee and fun.
