Interview Thibault

Study Trip Commissioner Interview

1. How would you describe your committee in three words and why?

Enthusiastic, diverse, and balanced. We are a group with different personalities and styles, but that is exactly what made us work so well together. Everyone brought something unique to the table: one person is creative, another practical, or structured. But what we all shared from the start was our enthusiasm for travel and the Study Trip!

2. What was your favorite thing to organize within the SRC?

What I enjoyed most was actually leading the team. There were plenty of ideas, but also quite a few challenges, like flight prices or finding companies. I really liked keeping an overview, making decisions, and bringing everything together. I also really enjoyed guiding the trip during the week itself; that was a role where I could fully express myself.

3. What were your goals for the committee?

We wanted to organize a trip that had something to offer for everyone, both in terms of content and social aspects. The idea was to create a good mix of different types of activities, but especially to do something unique. That is why we chose Bucharest as the destination: a place most people had not been to yet, which made it extra fun and surprising.

4. What did you think of the Study Trip reveal on December 4th?

It was a lot of fun, but also nerve-wracking. I did not know the group that well yet at that point, and we worked right up to the last minute to get everything finished. Luckily, everyone was excited about the location, and that really gave me a boost of energy!

5. What was your favorite moment during the Study Trip?

My first “free” evening. We went out with the whole group to a club called El Dictator, where portraits of dictators covered the walls. The vibe was bizarre, but in a fun way.

(Editors note: we liked to call him "Termi(nal) Thibault" this day")

6. What was the craziest moment during the Study Trip?

Around 2 a.m., a small group of us was playing a game in the common room when suddenly a drunk man climbed in through the balcony. He started yelling in Spanish about drugs and weapons. Everyone just stared at him like it was a scene from a movie.

7. What did you think of Bucharest as a destination?

Super cool. It is a city that keeps surprising you. There is this unique atmosphere, it is rough and beautiful at the same time. Everyone described the trip as some kind of fever dream, and honestly, that sums it up perfectly. It is a place that really sticks with you.

8. If time or money were no issue, what would you have liked to organize?

We actually thought about doing an overnight stay in Transylvania, with a campfire under the stars. But a dinner in the penthouse of the Palace of the Parliament, followed by a private party, wouldn’t have been bad either!
