Can you shortly introduce yourself?
My name is Dennis, I am 21 years old and I am now finishing my bachelor HAIT/CSAI. I did several things as a member of Flow, like the Introduction committee and the Formal Activities committee and last year I was chairman of the board.

Can you tell something about the side job you do?
I worked as a student assistant with Pieter Spronck at the university. It is a paid side job for eight hours a week. For my work I had to write a script (programming) to ‘translate’ the book that he wrote to a HTML-page, a kind of an online version so to say. I really had the freedom to do this and only had a few contact moments with Pieter Spronck. I could also decide for myself when I wanted to work on it. Some weeks I needed less than eight hours, so I did not have to spend the full eight hours on it, which is nice of course.

How did you end up here?
I found this side job through an announcement on the Blackboard page of the course Pieter Spronck gave. I did not have a side job at that time, I liked the course and I decided to apply. This was a nice opportunity for me to gain more knowledge, have a relevant side job had earn a little bit more money!

How many hours a week are you busy approximately?
I spent less time on it than eight hours most of the time, but the time I spent on it really depended on myself. Some weeks I spent 10-12 hours on it, other weeks none. I think I spent 5-6 weeks on it on average. I did not get a study delay because of it.

Why do you think that this side job is of added value when you enter the job market?
On the one hand because this is a relevant side job, in which I could apply the knowledge I gained in my lectures. I now have some experience, and hopefully a little bit more than other students. Besides that, I earned some extra money and the university is a great employer, so it made a difference in redeeming my debt in the end. It was mainly nice to actively use the knowledge from the lectures, and it made me more successful in passing the course. And it is a somewhat more relevant side job than my old one, in the supermarket ;).
